I tested this
Update and install lxde first, then add a user

I've been using this image for quite a while. Yesterday I did a regular update and my wifi network disappeard. lfconfig doesn't show uap0. So I reinstalled the whole system using johan's image and it worked again. Then, I performed the usual update and installed xorg+xfce (which here btw workes a lot better than lxde) and now again it doesn't work anymore.

My dmesg is attached. Hope someone can help.

Hi,

Make sure that the rootfs has the /lib/firmware/mrvl/sd8787_uapsta.bin file.
This is a firmware for Marvell 8787 WiFi/BT chip. w/o it the driver reports on an error while probing the device.

This is in arch package linux-firmware, I think you have it but in /usr/lib/firmware/... (which is ok)
As you know, I'm working on a later kernel (based on 3.14.Y LTS BSP compatable) and noticed this (it's random when it works).
Have a feeling it's all to do with timing and mounting rootfs, I might build in this firmware

Ok. Sorry for the late reply.

I think the error is caused by the system upgrade. What happened is that you installed a new linux-utilite kernel package which overwrites the kernel module needed for uap0 to work.
I think I mentioned this somewhere in a readme-file or whatever.

So, what you need to do is to build the backports package again for your new kernel. The procedure includes downloading a package, applying a patch and compiling the whole thing. It is a lot of fun, don't worry.

Ok. Don't mess up your only computer :)

Beware that it is likely that you will run into trouble when updating to pepedogs kernel anyways. The reason is that I think that I forgot to provide a correct /etc/fstab for this image. It was mostly done as a proof of concept to demonstrate AP functionality. I didn't think that anyone would actually use it for this long :)

Also, depending on your u-boot configuration the kernel update process may require some manual steps.

The details:
The boot partition where the kernel image is to be placed is not mounted on /boot. Pacman will then make a mistake and puts the new kernel image in this directory which instead resides on the main partition. Effectively you will end up running the original kernel but with updated modules. Also, the kernel image should be named uImage-cm-fx6, while pacman insists on naming it just uImage.

I'll provide a workaround and updated build instructions for this image. Hopefully I can get it onto github this week.

It will. Also update of uboot. Also interaction with uboot with env default -a. Also a boot.scr file. Uboot would be packaged to make that step easy, but still env needs default'ing. Putting uboot on card won't help as env is always on flash
